Playstyle
Shan is a mid-range control character who combines her spear, fans, and crystal bow to manipulate the battlefield and dictate the pace of combat. While approachable for beginners due to her versatile range and straightforward tools, mastering Shan requires understanding how to manage her Crystal Fields, weapon transitions, and Crystallization setups.
Her spear allows her to dominate neutral through long-reaching thrusts and sweeping attacks, keeping enemies at a distance while creating openings for her other weapons. Her fans provide close-range pressure and mobility, allowing her to defend herself when opponents break through her zoning. Meanwhile, her bow rewards careful positioning by establishing Crystal Fields that enhance her attacks and turn the battlefield into her territory.
Shan’s core gameplay revolves around building, controlling, and exploiting Crystal Fields. By applying Crystallization to enemies, she can freeze opponents and choose between immediate Shattering for explosive damage or Binding them to extend her offense and prepare additional setups. Skilled players can create chain reactions between multiple crystallized enemies, turning a single opening into a devastating sequence.
Rather than overwhelming opponents through raw power, Shan wins through patience, adaptability, and preparation. She constantly changes the conditions of battle, forcing enemies to approach her on her terms before punishing them with precise crystal-enhanced attacks.

Mechanics
Neo-Gen: Opal Crane
Shan’s crystal arrows leave behind a Crystal Field after a quick string of shots or a fully charged shot.
The field is anchored by a Crystal Core at its center. While active, Shan’s attacks gain additional crystal properties when performed inside the field.
If the Crystal Core is struck by Shan or an enemy, the field shatters and enters cooldown before another Crystal Field can be created.
Destroying the Crystal Core causes the field to erupt into a large crystallization blast, damaging nearby enemies and temporarily Crystallizing them.
Enemies gradually accumulate Crystallization through Shan’s attacks. Once fully Crystallized, they become frozen in place for a short duration.
Crystallized enemies can be:
- Shattered by Heavy attacks or certain finishers, causing them to explode based on Shan’s current weapon.
- Bound by holding the Special input instead of immediately Shattering them. Bound enemies remain frozen longer, allowing Shan to extend combos or set up Crystal Fields before cashing them out.
If multiple Crystallized enemies are within range, Shattering one causes a Chain Reaction, spreading Crystallization or triggering additional Shatters on nearby frozen enemies.
While inside the Crystal Field:
- Spear attacks gain extended crystal projections.
- Fan attacks release crystal bursts around enemies.
- Bow attacks ricochet between nearby targets.
- Certain finishers create additional crystal spikes.
Crystal Arrows
Shan’s bow can stock up to 3 Crystal Arrows. Each stocked arrow is automatically fired during her next charged bow attack.
Each additional arrow increases:
- Damage
- Projectile count
- Crystal Field size
- Crystallization duration
1 Stock
- Standard charged shot.
2 Stock
- Fires two crystal arrows.
- Creates a larger Crystal Field.
3 Stock
- Fires three crystal arrows.
- Greatly enlarges the Crystal Field.
- Crystal detonation deals increased damage.
Shan’s quiver contains three crystal slots.
Using weapon-specific special attacks temporarily infuses the next Crystal Field with a secondary crystal type.
Obsidian — Spear
- Crystal projections become larger.
- Spear attacks gain increased guard damage.
- Crystal spikes erupt after heavy attacks.
- Shattering Crystallized enemies creates larger explosions.
Amethyst — Fans
- Crystal bursts linger longer.
- Fan attacks create wider crystal explosions.
- Improves crowd control.
- Shattering inflicts crystal shard bleed on nearby enemies.
Quartz — Bow
- Crystal arrows pierce enemies.
- Bow shots ricochet between enemies.
- Crystal Fields last longer.
- Shattering releases crystal arrows that leave explosive energy trails.
Yari Arts
Shan’s moveset changes depending on whether she is wielding her spear. While holding the spear, Shan excels at mid-range combat through long-reaching thrusts and sweeping attacks.
Every successful spear attack can transition into different follow-ups depending on the input used, requiring the initial attack to connect before the follow-up becomes available.
Shan can throw her spear toward enemies.
Charging the throw makes it unblockable and causes it to explode on impact.
While charging, Shan may alter the spear’s initial trajectory.
After the spear has been thrown, pressing the input again redirects it toward the targeted enemy.
While her spear is absent:
- Fan attacks transition into close-range martial arts.
- Bow attacks gain enhanced projectile speed and additional crystal shots.
A planted spear remains embedded in the battlefield and acts as a setplay tool.
Certain attacks can:
- Detonate the planted spear.
- Recall it instantly.
- Redirect it through Crystal Fields.
- Use it as the origin point for follow-up attacks.
