Isobel

July 1, 2022 /Posted byBioMassCore x ULTIMATE / 31 / 0

Isobel Remina, The Bladed Papillion, is an exiled princess of the Abyssal Empire and Ritsueto’s younger sister. Isolated from the world due to her having powers linked to the Nexus through an AI that hosts her body, Isobel is troubled with both her connections and her sense of belonging due to her loneliness from her mother’s death upon birthing her. Seeking to find her place amongst the world and be accepted by the Empire. Her bond with Ritsueto serves as a guiding point in her life, anchoring her with a sense of structure.

– Personality –

On the surface, Isobel is mischievous, temperamental, and deliberately irritating. Needling at others with teasing remarks and petty pranks, often at the most inconvenient times. She isn’t impulsive, but always calculated in what move would work the most in provoking others. She laughs easily, but often at others’ expense. However, this isn’t because she lacks awareness, but because she enjoys being seen and remembered. If she is dismissed as what she presents herself as, then no one can accuse her of being too much.

Her humor and tricks are her ways of neglecting the creeping dread that she may not truly belong anywhere at all. She is internally soft-spoken, preferring to avoid raising her voice unless utterly necessary. When not around others, she’s often contemplating on the state of the world around her. Analyzing others and finding ways to cut deep into them with her harsher exterior. She clings tightly to abstract or spiritual concepts that others perceive as unreal. However, this is her internal way of seeking connection through devoting herself to abstract entities that don’t exist due to her sense of loneliness. Thus, any bond she happens to make leads to her utilizing promises in order to ensure she doesn’t end up losing the very few relationships she has.

Isobel imposes self-restraint and modesty on herself to avoid saying the wrong thing and to feel like she eventually “deserves” her bonds thus her existence. If not, she feels forgotten and thus, without meaning. At her core, she fears abandonment so much that she would rather leave first than risk being rejected. She is highly selective about who she lets close. In the company of stronger or bolder figures, she becomes withdrawn, not from shyness but from a quiet terror that she will be overlooked, yet equally afraid of being seen too clearly.

      – Abilities –

      – Abilities –

Isobel is a highly advanced Vessel linked to the Malkuth AI. Her body receives nutrients from leylines, rivers of the Nexus’ energy flow that were sealed away to contain the virus. Isobel exists partially across dimensional boundaries with Malkuth inside her, and her biology is linked to the leylines, allowing her to use them as pathways to manipulate the space around her. This allows her to create portals woven through the leylines and travel long distances in an instant. Through connecting two leylines as points in space, Isobel folds the space between them to create a tunnel connecting the two points by tapping into their properties. These portals appear like literal worms, having a mouth-like entrance, a throat as the tunnel, and the second mouth as the exit. The second mouth only lets things out, ejecting matter and energy, preventing anything from entering. This power can also be used offensively by teleporting enemies into traps, though forcing other bodies through portals requires significantly more energy than moving herself. Inside these portals is a subspace where Isobel can temporarily store objects or archive data related to Malkuth, such as hiding within the subspace to release attacks on enemies from unexpected angles.

Each portal requires a wind-up when created and has a brief delay before forming. Because of this, Isobel relies more on preparation and her nimble speed to overwhelm opponents. When creating a portal, Isobel forms a swirling mass of distortion that she can use in several ways. She can throw them as shuriken-like projectiles that cut through space, expand them into spiraling tornadoes of radiation, stretch them into ribbon-like distortions that redirect momentum, or compress portals into small knots of warped space that become unstable bombs of distortion when triggered. However, her portal creation has limits. She cannot open portals freely in empty space, and creating too many at once can disrupt the flow of her leyline routing. Remaining inside her subspace for too long can also cause radiation overexposure. Unlike her brother, she cannot absorb anything through her portals. Anything that enters must eventually be expelled through another portal.

With her portals, Isobel can briefly create a clone of herself by opening a portal and momentarily entering it to perform an action before phasing back out. The movement she performs inside the portal is recorded in the portal’s subspace field and manifests as an intangible duplicate of her that repeats that action in the real world. Because the clone is a projection of her movement rather than a true body, it cannot change its behavior once created and disappears after completing the motion. While using these clones, Isobel must commit to the action she performed within the portal, preventing her from using her usual mobility tricks or opening additional portals until the projection collapses.

Isobel is incredibly agile and swift, capable of rapidly approaching opponents while remaining evasive when necessary. She does not rely on brute strength but instead favors precision and trickery, using stinger-based weapons that deliver highly concentrated poison. Isobel manifests two wisps as floating balls of flame (Flame via TBA), commanding two of them as her defense systems. These wisps are linked to her daggers, which siphon energy-rich substances and distill them into a nectar-like compound. Paired with her daggers, Isobel could produce silk from specialized glands near her abdomen or wrists, similar to how spiders produce silk. This silk is used as threads to pull in enemies. Her body has several insectoid features. Her antennae allow her to transmit signals and sense disturbances around her. Her eyes can detect various forms of radiation, including those produced by other life forms. Her exoskeleton consists of metallic chitin-like plates reinforced through Malkuth. She also possesses four butterfly-shaped wings formed from thin biomechanical membranes supported by vein-like structures fueled by leylines and coated with metallic scales that scatter light. These scales can reflect energy-based attacks, produce blinding flashes, and scatter toxic particles that paralyze those who accumulate too much exposure. In the air, these wings grant Isobel long-distance flight and exceptional maneuverability. In dark environments, the wings camouflage her by diffracting ambient light across their metallic scales, allowing her to blend into her surroundings and gain a stealth advantage when combined with her speed and portal maneuvers.

Through Malkuth, Isobel can emit a neural signal that influences those with supernatural abilities, since leylines form part of the energetic composition of many living bodies. This signal allows her to see through their eyes, enhance their abilities, or rewire their bodies to her control. She can also manipulate wisp-like organisms that surround her through Malkuth in the form of dark stinger-shaped blades. These blades are controlled via a form of telekinesis, coordinating them with her signal into various offensive shapes and formations of stinger-like projectiles. Using her portals, Isobel can shed a portion of herself that develops into an egg stored within Malkuth. This egg allows her to reincarnate upon death, creating a new body as long as a portal is available when she enters a critical state. Reincarnation will not work if the surrounding leyline pathways are depleted. It also requires that the egg remain unharmed while forming inside her subspace. If the portal collapses before maturation, the egg is destroyed. Each reincarnation fragments Isobel’s memories, gradually distorting her sense of self and leaving her vulnerable to unintended alterations in her mind if the process is used too frequently.

Awakening these abilities in her body’s creation resulted in some type of damage reaching to her sight of colors, as she can use a spell of kinship scrying with her eyes to link into the eyes of her brother through treating him as the second coordination point. Using a singular wormhole can be used as an incantation circle shaped like a halo to change size, gravity and density. The wormholes can either be placed on surfaces or mid-air. Putting two coordination points on the same place will cause Isobel to phase through it quickly. However, the wormholes may emit dangerously high amounts of radiation from the subspace thus Isobel cannot use them right if she’s panicking or stressed lacking a full focus to plan out where her wormhole will reach.

      – Weapons –

Zeala: Twin biomechanical daggers linked directly to Isobel’s wisps. Their hollow stingers siphon energy-rich substances from living organisms, leyline currents, and supernatural constructs, refining them into a nectar-like toxin stored within their cores. Nectaris excels at precision strikes, poisoning targets with debilitating compounds while feeding Isobel’s support systems. The blades can also serve as anchors for portal routing, allowing attacks to emerge from unexpected directions through folded space.

Wisps: A pair of floating leyline organisms bound to Isobel through Malkuth. Manifesting as luminous spheres of living flame, they operate as defensive companions that intercept attacks, gather battlefield information, and amplify Isobel’s portal calculations. The wisps can channel stored nectar and leyline energy into concentrated bursts, support her mobility, or act as remote conduits for her spatial distortions.

      – Trivia –

Isobel’s original title was “Rifting Ghost Priestess”

      Isobel’s height is 5’6.

Isobel was originally going to have vocal damaging from her abilities awakening in pair with her affected eyesight.

Light being able to pass through Isobel’s subspace has affected her body in parallel to how kin of her race normally have pale hair
