Lyra

November 11, 2022 /Posted byBioMassCore x ULTIMATE / 39 / 0

Lyra Des Cadens, the “Melodic Oracle”, is the deuteragonist of BioMassCore. She’s Elpis’ twin sister who was a successful result in the experiment that birthed them, labeled one of the first Vessels and was thus separated from her brother at a young age. She was raised as a supersoldier with values of righteousness and liberty, praised for her skills of controlling the virus and her musical affinity. Those values still carry her in her journey to restore peace through uniting others. She serves as a leader of the Talon Regime

– Personality –

Lyra is an idealistic dreamer driven by her emotional attunement to others. She instinctively takes responsibility for their well-being and has a habit of stepping into leadership roles. Introspective, warm, and encouraging, she rarely allows herself the same care she offers so freely. Her self-image shifts based on how she affects those around her, shaped by a childhood that taught her to be an example rather than an individual. As a result, she struggles with guilt when she cannot save everyone, interpreting failure as a personal shortcoming. Her sense of right and wrong is deeply internalized, often compelling her to act decisively when she believes intervention is necessary.

Lyra has a relentless desire to experience the world in all its depth. She sees emotions, whether joy, sorrow, or disappointment, not as fleeting states but as the essence of life itself, the forces that propel existence forward. Expressing her emotions with an almost poetic intensity, she believes that genuine connection with others is forged through shared feelings and experiences. A natural visionary, Lyra possesses an unshakable drive to challenge societal norms and conventional thinking. However, unlike reckless revolutionaries, she wields her awareness like a brush on a canvas, knowing when to hold back and when to push forward. Her words are carefully crafted, not just to provoke but to inspire and awaken thought.

When confronted with feelings of inadequacy, Lyra turns to music as a coping mechanism, transforming her emotions into song. She reframes trauma into motivation as a way to keep moving forward and preserve her values. However, this process can become a barrier, causing her to bury unspoken thoughts beneath expression rather than confront them directly. Over time, this leads her to dissociate from herself—standing in contrast to Elpis, who possesses a strong sense of self but instead dissociates from others. As long as Lyra still has hope, she continues moving forward in pursuit of resolution and purpose.

However, this hope is a double-edged sword shaped by her naivety. Lyra’s isolated upbringing fostered a rigid, black-and-white view of the world, compelling her to search for a hopeful path in nearly every situation, even when reality contradicts it. She often chastises those who fail to meet her values, believing they can—and should—do better. Her constant attempts to guide others leave her vulnerable to deception, blinding her to those who choose cruelty rather than being shaped by circumstance.

Having spent much of her early life being overshadowed and underestimated, Lyra is prone to pushing her limits, even when reality turns dire. She refuses to accept stagnation, forcing herself forward no matter the cost. This unrelenting spirit extends to her relationship with her brother, Elpis, while he sees existence through a stark and often colorless lens, she challenges him to recognize the beauty hidden within disorder. Where he is controlled detachment, she is passionate expression. Despite her keen awareness, Lyra’s nature makes her both hopeful and vulnerable. She trusts too easily at times, believing in the potential for change even in those who may not deserve it. Yet, it is precisely this idealistic conviction that makes her a beacon to those lost in uncertainty, a rare soul who embraces the contradictions of life without losing herself to them.

– Abilities/Neo-Gen (Iris Sequencer) –

Lyra is an artificial supersoldier (homunculus) possessing a wide range of abilities tied directly to her engineered biology. Her body filters the Tidal Cataclysm into her bloodstream, granting her supernatural capabilities and a regenerative physiology that heals through the virus. It’s said her body uses materials harvested directly from the cells of a monstrous Nosoimones’ corpse (Entity made from the Tidal Cataclysm virus), granting her body extreme durability, conductivity, and biological responsiveness. Giving her a body that combines organic virus mutations with technological modifications also made from bodyparts of a Nosoimones. Her body reacts to her neural signals through the Tidal Cataclysm virus empowering her, whether it be tightening for protection, adjusting mobility, or increasing output during stress. The Tidal Cataclysm virus syncs with Lyra’s cells, triggering stimulation in her brain and causing an abnormal spike that affects her heart rate.

At the center of her physiology is a bio-mechanical heart constantly infused with the Tidal Cataclysm. Each heartbeat produces pulses synchronized with her BPM, converting every beat into amplified vibrational energy expressed as sound. Every pulse therefore triggers a sonic emission capable of disrupting the molecular structure of surrounding matter. These emissions can be channeled either through Lyra’s firearms or through her own vocal cords. Lyra manipulates the Tidal Cataclysm in the form of bloodstring-like threads of nanite-based blood cells. These strings continuously shift and reorganize, responding to the commands produced by her heart. By emitting controlled soundwaves, Lyra can disassemble and reassemble matter through these nanites, constructing machinery powered by Cataclysm energy. This process also applies to her own body, allowing her to transform limbs into weapon systems for offense, wings for transportation, or armor for defense. The weapons formed from her threads can be destroyed, but Lyra is usually able to reconstruct them rapidly unless she enters a state of cellular deficiency, where excessive damage or energy loss slows regeneration. She can also extract infected cells from Nosoimones in an attempt to cure them, absorbing the corrupted matter into her own system. Doing so places immense strain on her body, burdening her with an overload of cells. Additionally, she cannot cure entities composed purely of the Cataclysm or those that have been fully overtaken by it. If Lyra absorbs too many corrupted cells, the Cataclysm within her body begins to accumulate into tumorous formations.

When releasing her soundwaves, Lyra sends out a rupturing vibration via infusing her threads into others’ bodies, sending a pulse signal that transmits her heart’s sonic emission. When applied to biological targets, she can accelerate molecular motion to either heal—stimulating cellular activity and speeding regeneration, or destabilize tissue by forcing destructive resonance that divides cells. Through precise vibrational interference, she can also disrupt brain signals, temporarily paralyzing her opponents. Lyra can regulate the intensity of these waves by using the Cataclysm to alter her cardiac rhythm and tense her musculature, increasing the force of each pulse. At higher outputs, her vibrations can disrupt neural signals, causing disorientation or paralysis. Her amplified voice is also capable of interfering with electronic systems and weakening the structural integrity of materials. Lyra’s scream is audible to ultrasonic frequencies, capable of shattering strong material, redirecting projectiles, etc. By adjusting her output, Lyra can shift between rapid attacks that produce sharp, low-frequency cuts with internal damage and heavier strikes that generate bass-like shockwaves of high frequency. She constantly alternates between these intensities in combat, chaining them together to produce melodic patterns of destructive sonic blasts. When directed into surfaces such as the ground, Lyra’s vibrations can propagate through solid matter to produce localized seismic disturbances.

While airborne, Lyra’s sonic emissions interact with the surrounding atmosphere to produce powerful pressure waves. Using these waves through her wing-like devices, she gains jet-style aerial mobility, allowing her to dash in multiple directions, steer midair, and hover with the stability of a floating platform. She can even ride along her own soundwaves, effectively surfing across compressed currents of air.

Lyra’s signature involves her raising a high-pitched tone from her heart, producing a sound that exceeds 1,100 dB and compresses together overlapping threads that have vibrating cells, creating a cube-shaped field that draws in nearby targets. Lyra’s rings glow before she claps her hands together, collapsing the cube into a detonation of concussive force, obliterating everything caught within its radius.

– Weapons –

Arcus / Aristodama:

Lyra’s primary weapon is a bow-styled rifle equipped with harp-like strings that function as frequency controls. Each string corresponds to a specific harmonic range. The lower strings release seismic bass vibrations capable of destabilizing terrain, the middle strings produce shockwaves that break past armor, and the higher strings emit ultrasonic waves that slice through surfaces. At its highest setting, the weapon can unleash rapid shockwave slashes for a limited duration before overheating. To maintain optimal performance, Lyra must constantly alternate between the three harmonic ranges rather than relying on a single one. The rifle operates using a pulley-style trigger of threads that draws the harp string smoothly into the weapon’s internal reactor, charging shots before release. Its arrows are formed from fragments generated by the Lyra’s sword, manifesting as floating energy blades that can be fired semi-automatically and remotely controlled. The bow itself can reconfigure into a variety of weapon formations, including missile pods, gatling cannons, dual pistols, and a railgun. It also features multi-lock targeting systems. When not in use, the weapon collapses into a cube-shaped briefcase that Lyra can deploy as a handheld device.

This rifle can transform into a swordstaff/gunblade, featuring a set of strings that sends signals to the amplifier device in the blade. As a result, the string vibrations become converted by a pickup into an amplified wave that cuts through anything with force. When charging, a tremolo bar bends the pitch of the blade to distort waves into spiral-styled attacks, shockwaves, and unstable explosions. Within the staff is a gun chamber linked to Lyra’s railgun system, enabling her to fire powerful projectiles during combat.

Lyra frequently uses the recoil from these projectiles to enhance her mobility, firing shots to propel herself short distances while simultaneously attacking or evading opponents. She can also launch herself into the air using the weapon’s recoil. In close combat, Lyra often fires immediately before striking with the blade, using the resulting recoil to increase the speed and force of her swing.

Through her sonic emissions, Lyra can generate a wide variety of arrow projectiles with different firing patterns, including rapid volleys, concentrated streams of ionized beams, multi-directional barrages, homing shots, and ricocheting projectiles. Upon impact, these arrows detonate in localized shockwaves that knock back enemies while infecting them with the Cataclysm, causing corrosive deterioration over time.

– Trivia –

Lyra is named after the constellation of the same name. She shares her middle name with the goddess Dies, the personification of day whom was the daughter of Chaos and Caligo (Mist), and is also the roman counterpart to Hemera. Her last name, Cadens, comes from the alternate name of Lyra, Vultur Cadens. Which she also has traits from a vulture due to this name.

Lyra’s gameplay first started via scrapped mechanics of Elpis’ Podalirius Cipher.

Lyra is skilled in ballet.

Lyra’s arrows being strawed is a parallel to an old concept of Elpis using string

Lyra’s abilities were originally going to be used for Larasu due to how he was going to be set as a DJ-styled Ultfinite. A few other changes were done to Lyra’s abilities such as:

  • Lyra was going to be only anti-hypnotic in her normal form
  • Lyra would’ve been able to charm only inaminate objects but not those of technological origin
